Answers for families seeking support, clarity, and next steps

Whether you are just beginning to explore support or ready to take the next step, here are answers to some of the most common questions families ask about services, consultations, referrals, insurance, and virtual support.

What is early intervention and who qualifies?

Early intervention is a system of services for infants and toddlers from birth to age 3 who have developmental delays or disabilities. Children typically qualify based on a developmental evaluation that identifies delays in areas such as motor skills, communication, cognition, or social-emotional development.

How do I know if my child needs support?

If you have concerns about your child’s development, trust your instincts. This may include concerns with milestones like sitting, crawling, talking, feeding, play, engagement, or behavior. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. A consultation can help you better understand what support, if any, may be helpful.

What ages do you support?

Support may be available for children from birth through age 18, depending on the service and your family’s needs. Services may include developmental guidance, parent coaching, play-based strategies, and individualized support across different stages of growth.

What kinds of concerns do you help with?

Support may address communication delays, play skills, feeding challenges, motor development, sensory needs, behavior concerns, social-emotional growth, and parent-child interaction support. Services are tailored to your child’s needs and your family’s goals.

Do I need a referral to get started?

No. A referral is not required to get started. Families can book a consultation directly, and from there you will be guided through the next steps based on your child’s needs.

What happens during the first consultation?

The first consultation is a chance to talk through your child’s needs, your concerns, your goals, and any previous evaluations or support. It is also a time to ask questions, get clarity, and better understand which next steps may be the best fit for your family.

How do I know which service is right for my child?

The best place to start is with a consultation. That conversation helps identify your child’s needs, your family’s goals, and which type of support may be the best fit.

Are parents involved in sessions?

Yes. Parent and caregiver involvement is strongly encouraged. Families are an important part of progress, and coaching helps support carryover between sessions and everyday routines at home and in the community.

Can sessions happen at home or virtually?

Yes. Depending on the service and your family’s needs, support may be available in-home, in community-based settings, or virtually through telehealth.

Do you offer virtual sessions for families outside California?

Yes. Secure telehealth sessions are available for families across the United States. Virtual support can be especially effective for parent coaching, developmental guidance, and many therapy-based activities while offering added flexibility for busy families.

Do you accept insurance?

Services are currently out-of-network with private insurance. Detailed superbills can be provided for possible reimbursement, and many families also use HSA or FSA funds. Options can be discussed further during your consultation.

How long does therapy or support usually last?

Every child and family is different. Some families see meaningful progress in a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support. Goals are reviewed regularly so you have clarity on progress and what comes next.

Are services only for very young children?

Not necessarily. While early intervention specifically refers to support for infants and toddlers, broader services may also be appropriate for young children and older children, depending on the area of need and the type of support being provided.

Still not sure where to start?

You do not need to have all the answers before reaching out. A consultation can help you understand your options, ask questions, and take the next step with more confidence.
